Loren Cox

Loren Robert Cox, 93, died Dec. 19 in Newton.

He was born May 3, 1917, at Thayer.

He graduated in 1934 from Burns High School. He and his family moved to Pleasant Valley in Chase County where he became interested in farming.

In 1939, he married Mildred Melson. He was manager of Burns co-op, locker, and meat market in 1947, worked for Beech Aircraft 1951 and 52, and returned to the locker plant in1953.

In 1955, he and his wife bought a grocery store in Florence. They operated L&M Supermarket until 1976.

He was a member of Florence Methodist Church.

After retiring, he and Mildred spent winters in Mesa, Ariz. They moved to Newton in 1996 and to Asbury Park in October 2009.

He has two children, Carl and Lela.

Services will be at 10 a.m. today at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel, Newton, with the Rev. John Goering and the Rev. Moon-Hee Chung officiating.

A memorial has been established with Florence United Methodist Church and East Side United Methodist Church in care of Petersen Funeral Home, 215 N Main St, Newton KS 67114.
