Lunchtime specials double lunchtime traffic

Staff writer

Lunchtime business has doubled since FamLee Bakery in Marion started offering specialty meals daily in February.

“We’re kind of excited about all the attention,” co-owner and co-operational manager Jenny Craft said.

In the past, the bakery offered specialty meals only on Wednesday and Friday. Getting a griddle was the key to offering them daily, Craft said.

Which specials are offered on a given day depends on what Craft is hungry for, she said. Factors such as weather and holidays also play a part in the decision what to serve.

On Friday, 36 hungry diners came in for Philly cheesesteak sandwiches. The week before, 50 people came in for specialty cheeseburger sandwiches.

“Next Friday will be patty melts,” Craft said.

Co-owner and co-operational manager Catie Zurcher said the bakery still offers made-to-order regular sandwiches on white or wheat bread.

Customers select ham, turkey, roast beef or chicken salad; cheddar, provolone, pepper jack or Swiss cheese, and onion, tomato, lettuce or pickle for regular sandwiches.
