Man arrested on multiple charges

Staff writer

Jesse Marshall, 35, of Marion was arrested for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend at 1:30 a.m. Sept. 4 in the 200 block of N. 2nd St.

Marion officer Mike Stone investigated the case.

“He originally told me his girlfriend’s parents were trying to rob him,” Stone said. “But we determined that wasn’t the case.”

Marshall had been staying at their house with his girlfriend, Stone said, but Marshall wasn’t supposed to be there because he had a protection-from-abuse order against him in another state.

Upon investigation, Stone noted a “shoulder-width” hole in a panel of sheetrock inside the home where Marshall allegedly pushed his girlfriend into a wall.

“When we found the victim she had sheetrock dust on her back that was consistent with the allegations,” Stone said.

Once detained, Marshall allegedly told Stone he had two bags of methamphetamines in his pocket, but when police searched him, they did not find any drugs.

“He said, ‘Oh, the dope is in the house,’” Stone said. “It just popped out.”

Marshall allegedly informed Stone that the meth was in his room under the mattress.

However, when Stone asked permission to search the house, all parties involved agreed to the search except Marshall.

“He had been living there for a couple of weeks so we had to obtain a search warrant,” Stone said. “When got it, we went in and found the meth.”

Police discovered .07 grams of methamphetamines, valued at $20, and a homemade light bulb meth pipe, valued at $1, stashed under the bed in Marshall’s room.

Marshall faces charges of battery, violation of a protection- from-abuse order, possession of controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
