Marion County fair begins July 28

The 80th annual Marion County Fair will be July 28 through 31 at the Marion County Fairgrounds in Hillsboro.

“Apple Pies and Family Ties” is this year’s theme.

Pre-fair events include a dog show and a women’s ranch rodeo July 24, as well as a horse show at 6 p.m. July 26.

Food judging will be at 9 a.m. July 27 followed by a life skills judging contest beginning at 9:30 a.m.

Beef, sheep, swine, and goats projects should be checked in at 4 p.m. July 27.

July 28

Open class and 4-H entries check in will be at 9 a.m. July 28. Judging will take place later in the day with public viewing beginning after 3 p.m.

The 4-H sheep and meat-type goat show will be at 1 p.m. Children ages 12 and younger may enter to compete in a pedal pull at 6 p.m. The pedal pull will begin at 7 p.m.

The annual parade will begin at 6:30 p.m. on North Main, downtown Hillsboro.

Depending on sufficient entries, an apple pie contest silent auction will begin at 7 p.m.

The style revue will be at 7:50 p.m.

Mutton bustin’ and calf scramble for children 10 and older will be at 8 p.m. in the rodeo arena.

A rodeo will follow.

A dog agility demonstration will be at 8:30 p.m.

July 29

The dairy goat show will be at 9 a.m. July 29. A dairy cattle show will be at 1 p.m., and bucket calf and beef show at 5 p.m.

Mutton bustin’ and calf scramble for children ages 9 and younger will be at 8 p.m. in the rodeo arena.

A rodeo will follow.

July 30

July 30 begins with a swine show at 9 a.m. A livestock judging contest will be at 1 p.m., and the 4-H livestock premium sale at 6:30 p.m.

An antique tractor pull will begin at 7 p.m. in the arena.

July 31

Airplane rides will be available for children 8 to 11 a.m. at Hillsboro Municipal Airport. The rides are free to children ages 7 through 17.

All exhibits will be released at noon. All open class premiums will only be paid from noon to 1 p.m.

Fair week will culminate with a demolition derby and fireworks display, beginning at 7 p.m. at the arena.
