Marion County residents contribute to textile trunk show

The Marion County Textile Trunk Show will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Marion Community Center, 203 N. Third St., Marion.

Organizers tout it as “an event that fashionistas, collectors, and historians won’t want to miss.”

Textiles of all kinds will be on display, and hundreds of pieces will be for sale.

Historic clothing and other textiles from the Crofoot, Case, Hett, and Meierhoff families will be on display along with special occasion dresses, colorful aprons, hats, and a horsehair carriage robe loaned from the collections of other Marion County residents.

A 21st-century fashion show will feature clothing from Aunt Bee’s Floral, Garden, and Gifts.

Vintage fashions in men and women’s clothing will include bathing suits, military uniforms, cattlemen’s coats, and wedding gowns from many eras.

Programs to be presented Sunday include:

  • “History Stitched in Flour Sacks,” by Nancy Jo Leachman.
  • “Aprons, the Great American Cover-up,” by Susie Haver.
  • “Raccoon in the Corn,” by Jerilyn Henerikson.
  • “Two Windows Dye Company,” by Deb Waggoner.

Gretchen Unruh will provide food on site. The $3 entrance fee qualifies visitors for door prizes.
