Marion-Florence mail carriers to conduct food drive Saturday

Staff writer

Marion and Florence postal service carriers will have a food drive Saturday.

The National Association of Letter Carriers conducts the annual event with the assistance of mail carriers, postal employees, and community volunteers.

According to Marion postmaster Lori Kelsey, bags have been distributed to city and rural residents on the Marion and Florence postal routes. They are asked to place non-perishable food items in the bags and leave them by their mailboxes by 10 a.m. Saturday.

All the food collected will go to the Marion County Food Bank at 1220 E. Main St., Marion. Volunteers interested in helping collect food in Marion should meet at the food bank at 10 a.m. Saturday.

“We are really excited to participate in the food drive this year,” volunteer coordinator Gene Winkler said. “Since the food bank has just moved, this will allow us the opportunity to stock our shelves completely.”
