Staff writer

Two county teams remain in the postseason, one of which is coming off a first-round bye.

Peabody-Burns

Coming off a bye week after becoming district champions, Peabody-Burns (7-1) will play at home Friday against Chetopa (4-5).

Marion

The Warriors advanced to regional competition by dominating Sacred Heart on the road Friday, winning 70-31.

Jameson Looper led the team in rushing with 16 carries for 251 yards and six touchdowns.

Lane Smith had 16 carries for 169 yards and two touchdowns.

Carson Krause finished with four carries for 25 yards and one touchdown.

Senior Brian Nguyen led the defense with 4½ tackles, followed by Lane Smith with four.

Kellen Waner and Jesse Snyder are both credited with one interception each.

Marion (7-2) will be back on the road this Friday for regional competition against Conway Springs (9-0), the same top-seeded team that eliminated the Warriors 28-20 in the quarterfinals of last year’s playoffs.

Other teams in the county saw their seasons come to an end Friday.

Hillsboro

The Trojans rallied but were unable to comeback against Norton Friday night, eventually losing 33-22.

Norton held a commanding 20-6 halftime lead.

In the second half, the Trojans closed the gap to 27-22, but Norton finished the game well and held onto their lead.

Zayne Haslett finished with 14 carries for 45 yards and one touchdown.

Jesiah Gooch had nine carries for 13 yards and one touchdown.

Anders Weisbeck finished with two catches for 28 yards and one touchdown.

Sutton Redger was a standout on defense with 10 tackles and 12 assists.

The Trojans finished the season 4-5.

Goessel

The Bluebirds travelled more than 100 miles for their final game of the season against Washington County Thursday.

The Tigers scored first and led 8-0 by the end of the first quarter.

Both teams scored in the second period, but Goessel was held scoreless in the third, and soon trailed 30-6.

With 11:40 left to play, senior Luke Stucky got loose in the backfield and quarterback Brayton Base found him with a pass.

Stucky rumbled 16 yards to make the score 38-12.

The game concluded with a final score of 42-12.

Goessel’s season ended with a 1-8 record.
