Marion runners medal in bad weather

Staff writer

Marion runners may have gotten to know each other a little better as they huddled together to stay out of the rain and keep warm while they waited for their chance to run Thursday at the cross country meet in Halstead.

“The wind was cold and the rain made everything miserable,” coach Rebecca Hofer said. “Thankfully, however, the rain stopped quickly and the sun tried its best to shine.”

Runners endured the elements and brought home several medals.

Senior McKenzee Remmers took eighth place and medaled in a varsity girls 4K run with a time of 17 minutes and 1 second. Freshman Meggan Fresse came in 29th at 18:30, and sophomore Emily Hague finished in 37th at 18:58. Freshman Rune Hagemeister came in 55th at 22:13.

On junior varsity, juniors Shyla Harris and Brittany Hett set new personal records, placing 21st and 25th with times of 22:20 and 22:53, while sophomore Sam Fugitt placed 24th with a time of 22:37. All three girls medaled.

Senior Kaylie Waner placed 54th for the junior varsity team. She also set a new personal record with a time of 22:04.

For the boys, freshman Logan Waner placed 58th overall with a time of 21:30. Sophomore Taylor Fahey was next at 60th, setting a personal record of 21:37, and senior Quinton Hett placed 66th at 22:42.
