Marion's Boone headed to Tabor College

Marion High School senior Sheldon Boone signed a letter of intent to play football next season at Tabor College.

The 5-foot-8, 195-pound running back was a First Team All-MCAA selection in 2009 and made the MCAA second team in 2008.

As the power inside runner in Marion’s rushing attack, Boone amassed more than 130 yards on the ground in five games during the 2009 season: 149 against Hillsboro, 143 against Herington, 145 against Ellinwood, 135 against Sterling, and 144 yards against Lyons.

“People know that he is the center of our offense and he still comes through game after game,” Marion Football Head Coach Grant Thierolf said of Boone after the game against Hillsboro. “He gets the tough yards, and has to run through people.”

Tabor Head Coach Mike Gardner is looking to Boone to provide size, strength, and depth to the Bluejays running attack.

“Sheldon is a tough, hardnosed football player who combines balance and power,” Gardner said. “We are very fortunate he has chosen to stay close to home.”

Boone was also a Class 3A champion power lifter and won the district title in the javelin in 2009.

Sheldon is the son of Ike and Brenda Boone, of Marion.
