Marion's water towers might be next on list for maintenance

Staff writer

Marion’s water towers might be inspected, cleaned, disinfected, and maintained by a New Jersey-based company if city council members agree to contract with them.

Jim Jackson, Suez Advanced Solutions, told city councilmen Monday he recommends the old water tower west of the high school be power washed.

“There was a lot of lead in that tank,” Jackson said. “You can have a lot of lead in it until it starts flaking off.”

He said the company could disinfect the tank and renovate the exterior and exterior and make needed repairs.

The roof of the tank has holes in it and the pattern of buzzards roosting there needs to be broken, he said.

Jackson said if the city buys a maintenance plan, Suez will make repairs needed now and repairs needed later.

Council members took no action on the proposal Monday.
