Marion school board handles routine items

Marion-Florence school board members voted Monday to extend the terms of members whose terms expire before school board elections.
The issue arises because state law setting dates for school board elections has changed, making school board elections in November along with other elections.
The board is preparing for negotiations with teachers. Superintendent Lee Leiker explained that at the end of negotiation, teachers can accept a new contract, resign their position, or continue working under a previous contract.
Board members heard a presentation about the Parents as Teachers program, and held a 45-minute executive session to discuss personnel and negotiations.
