Marion school board hires band teacher

Marion board of education approved several new hires at its meeting Monday, including a pair of music directors.

Ruth Springer was hired as vocal music director for the rest of the current school year, with Steven Glover hired as instrumental music director for the 2019-2020 school year.

Jami Mayfield was hired as assistant forensics coach. Tod Gordon was hired as golf coach for the upcoming season, while Kyle Gfeller and Jessica Reed will be assistant track coaches.

Aleya Hill was approved as the new aquatics director, and Tagen Lambotte was hired as a teachers’ aide at the elementary school.

All three principal contracts were extended through June 2021.

A list of school fundraisers was approved to help raise money for the Education Travel Abroad trip to Europe in late spring. While not a school-sanctioned trip, approval was needed since the fundraisers will be at school events. Options included a plant sale and fireworks stand.
