News editor

Marion schools will have a pair of new teachers, each with a master’s degree, when school starts in the fall. USD 408 Board of Education approved hiring Kelsey Metro and Tim Cassidy during a special meeting Monday.

Metro was hired as the new middle school science and technology teacher. She has seven years experience and has a master’s degree. On the current salary schedule, that would qualify her for a salary of $39,600. She was the applicant recommended by administrators from a pool of 11 applicants.

Cassidy was hired as the new vocal music teacher. He has five years experience and will complete a master’s degree in May. That would amount to a salary of $38,250 currently, plus a $2,145 supplemental contract for music work outside normal hours. He has been in charge of a couple of choral groups while at Kansas State University. He was the recommended choice out of 12 applicants.
