CORRESPONDENTS:   Marion Senior Center

Senior center correspondent

Marion Senior Center was drenched in green on St. Patrick’s Day, with Thelma Blosser wearing a green wig and Shirley Moore with a green boa and headdress. Keith Collett sang Irish songs after lunch and they all sang “My Wild Irish Rose.”

Head cook Henrietta Waner attended training in Manhattan, and explained that the center is only allowed to substitute liver or fish.

Ivanlee Timm, Shirley Moore, Leonard Klassen, Evelyn Jewett, and Harold Conyers bagged commodities March 11 after lunch. Jon and Suzanne Thole picked up the commodities in Council Grove.

Bula Weigart brought in the first flower of spring March 12.

Pearl Helmer celebrated her birthday March 16, and Evelyn Jewett provided treats March 17.

March 16 was St. Urho Day, when the grasshoppers were removed from Finland, similar to how the snakes were removed from Ireland by St. Patrick.

Donna Becker of Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice will present a program March 31.
