The Marion Senior Center celebrated Elvis Presley’s birthday Jan 6. Marc Baker of Wichita sang many Elvis songs and gave artificial pink roses to the women in the audience. Some even received a quick kiss on the cheek. Elvis will return in 2013.
Thelma Blosser celebrated her birthday Jan. 9 with a cake decorated for her and Elvis. She had invited a number of friends to eat at the center for her special day.
The next day Norma Kline brought homemade cookies for her birthday.
The center had another big food giveaway Jan. 11. It included 500 pounds of baked goods, potatoes, oranges, apples, bananas, and chicken quarters. The Kansas Food Bank provided the food, brought by Gene Winkler.
Robert Carlton spoke after lunch about the five wishes people have for their decision making for medical care when they cannot verbalize a response themselves.
Residents are welcome to come to the center Jan. 28 when Ted Hayes, of the Kansas Sports Hall-of-Fame in Newton, will present a program.
The United Methodist Women, of Eastmoor United Methodist Women, of Eastmoor Methodist Church will have a Kansas Day pioneer meal at 1 p.m. Jan. 29 at the Church. Following the meal, Ann Birney of Ride Into History will portray Julia Archibald Holmes who traveled the Santa Fe Trail on foot in the 1858. She became the first white woman to climb to the top of Pike’s Pike. Reservations are required for the program. The cost is $10 per person. Call Janet Bryant at (620) 382-3418 for more information.
