Marion VFW auxiliary donates to community

The Ladies Auxiliary to Ecker-Fulkerson-Slifer VFW of the U.S. Post 6958, Marion, met at 7 p.m. Oct. 14 at the post home.
Eight members were in attendance which was conducted by president Donna Kreutziger.

Jennifer Kreutziger was approved as a new member.

Committee reports were heard.

Reflective stickers were ordered for Marion Elementary School students while trick or treating, three more boxes of items were sent to servicemen in September, a birthday card was sent to the national home for October birthdays, 258 buddy poppies were distributed at Old Settlers’ Day which raised nearly $150 for the relief fund to assist veterans’ families, and bibs will be taken to St. Luke Hospital.

Entries for the Patriot’s Pen writing contest will be collected and judged, and art contest information will be delivered to Marion schools.

Donations were approved that included $60 to Wreaths Across America, $25 to National Home for Christmas Seals, $25 to National Home for Health and Happiness Christmas Cheer Fund, $25 to the V.A. Christmas fund, $25 to PAC, and applesauce to nursing homes in Marion and Peabody.

Members were reminded to bring comfort items for Colmery-O’Neill VA Hospital to the November meeting.

The November meeting will be an annual inspection by district president Lois Kliest. Since Veterans’ Day is Nov. 2, the second Tuesday of the month, the November meeting will be at 2 p.m. Nov. 18 at the post home.
