Marion woman wins trip to CMT Music Awards

Polite persistence paid off for Marion senior citizen Dorothy Conyers, who has won a trip to Nashville, next week for the 2016 Country Music Television Music Awards.
“I am very excited to go,” Conyers said, “It’s a three-day, two-night, all expenses paid trip. I always wanted to go to Nashville, but the funny thing is I just took a tour bus trip there six months ago.”
When Conyers saw an Eagle Communications sweepstakes, she decided she wanted to win and go again.
“I thought, ‘I’m really gonna do this,’ so I entered an email every day,” she said.
Her perseverance prevailed. She plans to take son, Jerry, to the nationally televised event.
“Country music is my music,” she said. “I’ve always liked it and listened to it, but Jerry is really more excited than I am. He was just elated. He works all the time and hasn’t taken a vacation since out last family reunion three years ago.”
Conyers and her son will fly out, stay in a hotel, attend the event, and maybe have a little time to do some sightseeing.
The taste of success inspired her to enter more contests.
“There is another one going on for the BET Awards this year,” she said. “I’m not sure what it is but I thought ‘what the heck; I’ll go for it, too.’”
BET is Black Entertainment Television.
