IN THEIR OWN WORDS: MAYORAL CANDIDATES SHARE THEIR VISIONS FOR TOWN:   Mary Olson

Getting the citizens of Marion interested in the affairs of city has been my goal and will continue to be high on the list. Without this involvement, the city suffers in many ways. Without input from the citizens, many concerns may to be put off or never addressed. I will continue to support the various advisory boards and listen to their recommendations.

We have a city staff delegated to serve the city, but it is the council’s duty to see that your taxes and utility fees are spent wisely. It also is the council’s and staff’s duty to see that planning is done to look into the future of the city businesses, schools, housing facilities, health care facilities, and recreational facilities.

I have supported the aquatic center, restrooms at the baseball complex, sidewalks, community center, and the library addition. I have been instrumental in getting timetables for numerous city projects the last seven years.

The monetary benefit I receive will continue to be used for park projects and the police dog. It is also used for some of my travel expense to attend meetings and events.

Cutting corners on documentation and planning projects to save a little time causes problems along the way. Starting at square one and following procedure is the best way to get results. I will continue to strive for transparency in the local government.

Economic growth is going to take more than a few people working together to bring in new business and retain those we have. I will continue to support a planned growth for the city.

Finally, I would like to ask your support in the election on April 1. Having a large turnout for this election will also show the citizens want to be involved in the future of Marion.
