Mary Strotkamp

Mary “Kay” Strotkamp, 73, died at her home on Wednesday, Jan. 11, in Peabody, Kansas.

Kay was born Jan. 30, 1943, to Henry and Mary (Kloster) Schiffner in Hillsboro, Kansas.

She married Vic Strotkamp on March 9, 1962, in Newton, Kansas. They were married for 43 years prior to his death on April 26, 2005.

Not long after Vic and Kay were married, they started a bait shop which later transitioned into a convenience store. She later became manager of McCall’s Shoes in Newton for 13 years. After McCall’s closed, she began working in the family landscape business. In recent years, she served as a driver for Peabody-Burns school system and worked summers at Kaw Valley Nursery.

Kay was an avid baker, enjoyed gardening, and loved watching wildlife at her home. She deeply loved and cared for her family. She was always there for them and loved to be around them, especially the grandkids.

She is survived by her children, Kristine Dameron and her spouse, Chad, and Kevin Strotkamp; sister Dolores Robinson; grandson Zachary Dameron and spouse, Amy; great-grandchildren Ridley and Ellie Dameron; and nephews Mike, Curtis, Dave and Eric Robinson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Victor I. Strotkamp; parents Henry and Mary Schiffner; and sister Norman Neufeld.

Funeral services were Wednesday, Jan. 18, at Peabody Christian Church, Peabody, Kansas.
