Maude Elizabeth Gaines, 96, of Peabody, died Oct. 30, 2008, at St. Luke Hospital, Marion.

Born March 16, 1912, in Summit Township near Burns, she was the daughter of George and Ida Roberts Clark.

On March 30, 1940, she married Ronald Gaines. She was a farmer’s wife and homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband; grandsons, R.J. Gaines and Bo Gaines; son-in-laws, Don Harper and Ray Paxton; and three brothers.

Survivors include two sons, Ronnie Gaines of Burns and Herbert Gaines of Cassoday; four daughters, Sally Abel of Perry, Jean Gaines of Holton, Vicki Gantz of Perry, and Shelley Harper of Inman; two brothers, Wilbur Clark and Gordon Clark, both of El Dorado; four sisters, Margaret Matz of Peabody, Norma Riggs of Marion, Joyce Barker of Wichita, and Sherol Nightengale of Burns; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were Nov. 3 at Peabody United Methodist Church with Reverend David Ragland officiating.

Burial was in Summit Cemetery, rural Burns.

A memorial has been established with Summit Methodist Church.
