May 1 is Garage Sale Day in Lincolnville

Staff writer

At its Monday meeting, Lincolnville City Council set May 1 as Garage Sale Day. The community center will be available for rural people to set up booths.

Alex Case Jr. of Case and Son Insurance reviewed the city’s insurance policy. Inventory had not changed much from the previous year except the addition of a Dodge pickup and elimination of two older vehicles.

Jo Olsen of Lincolnville reported on her role as a member of Marion County Economic Development Council. She said she has been appointed to serve as a representative of some of the smaller communities in Marion County. She said Lincolnville now has a Facebook page.

The city council continues to struggle with the issue of unpaid sewer bills by some residents. Submitting the issue to the city attorney does not seem to be effective.

Clerk Sabrina Carson was instructed to send April billings to two residences along with certified letters. The residents were claiming they had not been receiving the bill. Each home owner pays $9 per month toward sewer upkeep.

Treasurer Clay Simons reported a number in the budget is wrong. The budget for shop parts and repairs was listed as $1,000. It should have been $10,000. Simons said money can be shifted from capital outlay to fill the gap.

City employees were instructed to spray for weeds and prepare the ball field for summer ball, seed grass at the community center, install a new culvert at the burn site, and prepare to repair potholes and broken spots in paved streets.

The council approved the purchase of a $99 computer software program for sewer bills plus a flash drive for backup.

Council members met in executive session to discuss the city attorney position. The current city attorney is Dan Baldwin of Marion. No action was taken after the meeting reopened.

The council approved a special meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday to evaluate employees. The next regular meeting is at 7 p.m. May 3.
