Medallions mark sesquicentennial
Marion is gearing up for the 150th anniversary — or sesquicentennial — of becoming a city.
Activities are planned to begin in January with the culmination of the yearlong celebration at Old Settlers’ Day next year.
One item that will be available Saturday to settlers — young and old — will be medallions, numbers 11 through 250, commemorating the occasion.
Medallions numbered 2 through 10 will be auctioned next year with the No. 1 medallion being auctioned at the 2011 Old Settlers’ Day.
The medallions are $25 each and will be sold Saturday afternoon in Central Park, west of the gazebo.
Proceeds from the medallions will be used to fund next year’s celebration.
