Meierhoff appointed to MEDI

Managing editor

Marion City Council appointed Councilman Chris Meierhoff to Marion Economic Development Inc. Monday.

MEDI President Todd Heitschmidt asked the council to consider a new appointee since there have been new members elected to the council since the last appointment. Currently, councilman Jerry Kline serves as an at-large member and Mayor Mary Olson had previously served.

Meierhoff and Steve Smith said they were interested in serving on the board. Olson said she would like to continue to serve and was about to appoint herself when Smith made a motion to appoint Meierhoff. The motion passed but Olson said she was going to continue attending the meetings.

Other business

  • Grass will be killed on B and C fields at the baseball complex and replaced with red shale. Olson appointed Meierhoff to oversee the project.
  • An amendment to a loan agreement between the city and Kansas Department of Transportation was approved. The loan was for two additional blocks on North Cedar Street as part of the overlay project on Eisenhower Drive and Cedar Street. The council also approved a resolution that authorized the execution of the loan.
  • The council went behind closed doors for 30 minutes with Mayfield and a candidate for city clerk. No decisions were made when the council returned to open session. A series of short sessions followed to discuss personnel for a total of 18 minutes with no decisions upon returning to open session.

The next council meeting will be at 4:30 p.m. Oct. 4 in the city building.
