Menno Elden Regier, 84, died Feb. 21, 2012, at Newton Medical Center. He was born April 26, 1927, to Cornelius and Margaret (Epp) Regier in Elbing.
He attended grade school in Elbing and graduated from Whitewater High School. After graduation, he worked on the family farm and then served two years of voluntary service as an orderly at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City from 1952 to 1954.
During this service, he met Doris Horst while she was a patient at St. Luke’s. The couple married on April 1, 1957. They had two sons, Myron and James, and made their home in rural Newton. He was a longtime member of Zion Mennonite Church in Elbing.
Regier worked at Beechcraft for a short time, before starting a career with Hesston Corp. that lasted 34 years until he retired in 1992 to continue farming.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Doris Regier; two sons, Myron Regier and James Regier; two brothers, Otto Regier and Howard Regier; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister, Mildred Regier.
Memorial services were Saturday at Zion Mennonite Church in Elbing. Visitation was Friday at Petersen Funeral Home. Private family burial was in Zion Mennonite Cemetery, rural Elbing.
