Marion Elementary School and Marion Middle School chess teams placed third in their respective divisions in a tournament Saturday at Marion Elementary.

Christian Becker, MMS eighth grader, placed 13th individually in the K-8 division.

It was the first time the school has hosted a Kansas Scholastic Chess Association event. Eighty-five students from Marion, Concordia, Lindsborg, Solomon, Canton-Galva, McPherson, Moundridge, Hillsboro, Goessel, and Pleasant Valley participated in the tournament.
