MES leadership team on the move

Staff writer

Marion Elementary School sixth graders have a responsibility as role models to the younger students.

For the second consecutive year, a group called the MES Leadership Team is taking that to another level.

Ten students were chosen after writing essays at the beginning of the year about why they would be beneficial to the team. Three alternates were named as well.

The group is led by teacher Ginger Becker.

“It’s great because we get input from everybody,” Becker said of the team.

She said while the main goal of the group is for the students to be role models, it also is for them to help out other students in need.

Each team member adopted a K-4 classroom. If a member has free time he or she will go to that class and make sure everything is going OK.

They also may sit with a younger student during an assembly, and helped during Red Ribbon Week.

Each Wednesday, group members wear their team shirts and have a brief meeting with Becker.

“We talk about our vision and goals,” Becker said.

Right now, according to Becker, one of the goals of the group is to have a winter dance.

However, the main goal is to make sure the students at MES are heading in the right direction.

“They help keep everyone motivated,” Becker said.
