Vegetable, a Lawrence-area band who will open for 38 Special June 5 at Chingawassa Days, has Marion connections.
Guitarist and vocalist Travis Moore, bassist and vocalist Oliver Good, and drummer Eric Voelker are Marion High School alumni. They are joined by Marc McMiller, of Lawrence, on guitar.
Good, Moore, and Voelker began playing in high school, more than a decade ago. They also played in MHS jazz band when Mike Connell was the director.
Vegetable formed about three years ago in Lawrence, Good said, but all of the musicians have played in bands previously. He described their music as rock-pop with influences from 90s and classic rock. All of the band members work other jobs.
Band members are excited to play for the hometown crowd, Good said, And he knows from experience how good the sound system for Chingawassa Days is.
“We’re looking forward to it,” he said. “It will probably be the biggest show we’ve ever played.”
Bob and JoAnn Good of Marion are Good’s parents, Eric and Cindy Moore of Marion are Moore’s parents, and Louie and Anna Voelker, formerly of Florence, are Voelker’s parents.
