The Marion High School baseball and softball teams played Smoky Valley Tuesday in Marion.
The Warrior baseball team split the doubleheader losing the first game, 12-11, and winning the second game, 10-6.
The Warriors were down 12-5 going into the seventh inning of the first game despite three excellent defensive plays by Adam Maag: a lunging catch in center, a throw to beat a runner to the plate, and a diving catch on a sinking line drive.
Marion runners loaded the bases with no outs and Wil Case knocked in Isaac Hett and Colton Olsen to score two runs. Then Brian Fruechting scored on an error, Case scored on a ground out, and Austin Pedersen scored on a second error. Marshal Ragland ended the scoring by running home on a Viking throwing error on a pick-off attempt.
The Warriors had better luck in the second game. Ethan Hett led the team by throwing a complete game from the mound and Olsen had two triples, scoring two runs to lead the Warriors in scoring. Marion opened up a six-run lead in the first inning and held on for the victory.
