MHS Classes plan Old Settlers' reunions

Class of 1984

The Marion High School class of 1984 will celebrate their 30th reunion on Old Settlers’ Day weekend, Sept. 26th and 27th.

Friday afternoon the float will be decorated in the west parking lot of Willy J’s 9th Lane Sports Bar and Arcade at 5 p.m. An informal gathering on the patio of Willy J’s will follow with shrimp, crawfish boil and barbecue ribs being served. Family members are welcome to attend. Classmates can enjoy the band that will perform at 9 p.m. Cover charge will be $5 per person.

Saturday morning at 10 a.m. the class will meet at 418 Walnut St. to take photographs and then load onto the float. After the parade classmates can enjoy the family activities taking place in Central Park. Class introductions will be held at the gazebo starting at 2:30 p.m.

Saturday starting around 5 p.m. the class will meet at Willy J’s for a catered meal and fellowship, ‘80s trivia, music, and photos sharing. Another band performance is at 9 p.m. Cover charge per person will be $5. Attendees should RSVP to Marty Fredrickson at 620-382-3700 or marty@marionks.net.

Updated Reunion plans for the class of `1974’

 

Marion HS Class of 1974 will celebrate their 40th class reunion Old Settler’s Day, Sept. 27.

Events begin Saturday morning at the home of Mike O’Dell for breakfast and decorating the trailer for the parade. At 10:30 a.m. they will meet on Walnut St. to ride through the parade. Classmates should bring candy to throw.

They will eat lunch in the park, enjoy the games, band concert and class introductions at the gazebo. A marked tent will designate the location to gather for visiting.

Evening events will be held at the O’Dell (Scotland) place, 2477 180th Rd. southeast of Marion beginning with a social hour at 5 p.m. followed by a catered meal at 6 p.m. Classmates are asked to bring snacks and beverages for the social hour. A slide show of past and present pictures is being prepared by Claire Fruechting Meredith. Please submit photos to her at clmered@aol.com by Sept. 21. Previously reported reunions

Class of 1954

The class of 1954 will celebrate its 60-year reunion with an evening meal at the Historic Elgin Hotel Bed and Breakfast in addition to other activities.

The events planned on Saturday will begin with coffee at 9 a.m. at the Elgin. At 10:30 a.m. they will load on the tram in the parking lot behind the Elgin. After riding the tram through the parade route, class members will be on their own for lunch in the park. Introductions of class reunions will be around 2 p.m. in the park. Dinner will be at 6:30 p.m. and will include a video presentation by Roger Pankratz.

Class of 1964

The Marion High School Class of 1964 will celebrate their 50th class reunion Old Settlers’ Day, Sept. 27.

There will be a MHS Class of ’64 float for classmates to ride in the parade. They will meet at 10:30 a.m. around Walnut Street for the parade at 11 a.m.

For lunch, members will be on their own to enjoy the meal served in the park where they can sit under the beautiful trees and visit with old and new friends.

The class will participate in the afternoon program with other reunion groups, usually around 2 p.m.

Members will enjoy a wonderful meal served at Country Dreams Bed & Breakfast east of Marion. Visiting starts around 5 p.m. with the meal being served at 6 p.m., followed by more visiting. The entire day is very casual, so dress comfortably.

Class of 1969

The MHS class of 1969 will be celebrating their 45th anniversary at Old Settlers’ Day this year.

Events begin Saturday, September 27, with a pre-parade breakfast at Jan and Gary Wiens’. At 10:30 a.m. they will congregate on Walnut Street for the parade. Class members should bring candy to throw.

They will eat lunch in the park, then participate in the Girl Scout Troup 61 Singalong by the tennis court and the class introductions at the gazebo.

Drinks will be at 5 p.m. at the country club followed by the reunion supper at 6 p.m. There will be a short business meeting and an even shorter program, then “general visitin’ and hangin’ out, naturally”.

Class of 1974

Marion High School class of 1974 will have their 40th reunion in conjunction with Old Settlers’ Day on Sept. 27.

Class members can ride on the float and have lunch at noon in Central Park.

Spouses or significant others are invited for an evening get-together at the home of Claire Fruechting Meredith in northeast Wichita.

Class of 1979

The Marion High School class of 1979 will have its 35-year reunion Old Settlers’ Day weekend, September 27 and 28.

Friday evening there will be an informal gathering around dusk at Willy J’s 9th Lane Sports Bar & Arcade at the bowling alley.

The class will meet Saturday morning around 10 a.m. at Danny Snelling’s house to get the float ready and load up. After the parade they plan to enjoy lunch in the park, kids’ games, and the Marion High School band concert. Class introductions will take place in the gazebo around 2 p.m.

The reunion dinner will take place Saturday evening at the Marion County Lake Hall. Set up will be around 4:30 p.m. with “happy hour” around 5 p.m. The grills will be fired up around 6 p.m. and a potluck-style dinner will take place around 6:30 p.m. Class members can grill their own meat or chicken or steak can be purchased and grilled for them at the nominal charge of $10.00 for chicken or $15.00 for steak. Class of 1994

The Marion High School class of 1994 will have its 20th class reunion in conjunction with Old Settlers’ Day.

The class will ride on a float in the parade Saturday then have dinner at 6 p.m. at Marion Lake Hall.
