MHS debaters fare well at Salina

Marion High School debaters won four medals this past week at the Salina Central Debate Tournament.

Nic Bronnert and E.J. Obermeyer placed sixth and defeated Lansing, St. Mary’s, and
two teams from Salina South.

Obermeyer was the number one speaker in two rounds, and Bronnert in
one.

Beth Nesser and Taylor Harms placed eighth by defeating Lansing, Salina South, and shared splits with St. Mary’s and Lansing.

Nesser was rated as
the number one speaker in two rounds and Harms was the number two speaker in three rounds.

Both teams received medals and competed against 16 teams.

Advanced Debate

Adam Palic and Chris Guetersloh defeated Concordia and Manhattan, and split against Salina South teams.

Guetersloh was the number one speaker in one round, and Palic ranked one in two rounds.

Out of 15 teams,
Palic and Guetersloh had impressive speaker points.

“This was a difficult tournament, and it proves that our 3A debaters can
compete successfully with 5A and 6A schools,” said coach Mary Griffith. “We are proud of our
squad.”
