Members of Marion-Florence FFA chapter won the greenhand division of the South Central District FFA Livestock Evaluation Career Development event April 6 at Hutchinson Community College.
Other teams from MHS placed in the top of the freshman division.
The team of Katey Ehrlich, Nick Meyer, and Lauren McLinden won the greenhand division.
Individually for Marion in the greenhand division, Katey placed second, Nick fifth, Lauren 16th, and Jordan Laurin 19th.
The team of Jordan, Kaitlyn Freese, Zac Lewman, and Devan Carr placed ninth.
Participants were required to evaluate and place eight classes of cattle, sheep, and swine. They also had to give a set of oral reasons for their evaluations and answer questions about three classes of cattle.
Other participants from MHS were Alicia Maloney, Caitlyn Maloney, Clint Kroupa, Abbey Smith, Amanda Stuchlik, James Jones, Timothy Knolla, Sean Buchanan, John Jordquist, Dylan Seacat, Taylor Heidebrecht, and Brandon Helvie.
Entomology team places 4th
The MHS FFA team placed fourth in the entomology contest.
Contestants were required to identify 50 insect samples and complete a written test about the insects.
Team members were Alicia, Caitlyn, Katey, Laurin, Nick, Clint, Abbey, Amanda, James, Timothy, Sean, John, Dylan, Taylor, and Brandon.
