MHS girls advance to substate tourney

Warriors dominate Neodesha

The Marion High School girls basketball team defeated Neodesha 67-42 Tuesday at Marion in the Warriors first-round game of the Eureka regional substate tournament.

Julia Zeiner had a double double for Marion, scoring 24 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.

Lindsay Hett was her sidekick, pouring in 13 points and grabbing six rebounds. Hett was also Marion’s leading defender with seven steals. Hett benefited from a stout defensive performance; the Warriors didn’t allow Neodesha to score more than 11 points in a quarter.

Despite the 25-point margin of victory, Marion Head Coach Randy Savage thought the Warriors still have a few kinks to iron out before a likely Friday matchup with Burlington, the No. 1 team in Marion’s substate bracket.

“We’re senior heavy,” he said. “I’ve seen them play better.”
