MHS JV scholars fourth at McPherson

The Marion High School JV scholars’ bowl team competed in two meets this past week.

At the Remington Invitational, the team of sophomores Landon Leiker and Patrick Hodson, and freshmen Caroline Collett, Drew Knolla, and Beth Nesser compiled a 5-1 record in pool play, but lost to Andover Central in the single-elimination semifinals.

Leiker led Warrior scoring with 195 points, followed by Collett with 90 points, Hodson with 40 points, and Knolla with five points.

Two evenings later, Collett, Nesser, and Hodson were joined by sophomore E.J. Obermeyer to compete in the McPherson Invitational.

The evening started with preliminary play where Marion defeated Trinity 60-50, Centre 50-20, Cheney 70-35, and Goessel 80-40, before losing to Inman 40-5.

In the quarterfinals the Warriors defeated Smoky Valley, 70-30, before losing to Hutchinson, 90-50, in the semi-finals, and Maize, 75-50, in the consolation round.

The team took fourth place out of 24 teams.

Obermeyer led the scoring with 195 points followed by Hodson and Collett each with 110 points, and Nesser with 40 points.

“The first few weeks of the season are always a challenge since many of the team members were involved in the musical and then basketball practice has started this past week,” said head coach Doug Vogel.

“The Marion varsity and JV teams are off to a great start for the season.”
