MHS scholars' bowl loses tiebreaker at Moundridge

In competition Thursday at Moundridge, the Marion High School scholars’ bowl team posted a 3-2 record in pool play and advanced to the quarterfinals as a wildcard team. They lost to Moundridge B in a tiebreaker, 50-40.

In pool play, Marion defeated Canton-Galva, 60-20; Minneapolis, 80-10; and Sedgwick, 55-30. Marion lost to Inman, 55-10; and Moundridge A, 90-20.

Sophomore Zach Robson led scoring with 110 points, followed by senior Drew Knolla, 80, junior Angel Funk, 55, and senior Elizabeth Goentzel and freshman Kaylie Waner, 10 each.

In a meet Saturday at Eureka, Marion posted a 4-3 record in pool play, tying for second in the pool, but did not advance through the tiebreaker process.

Marion defeated Remington, 50-40, Northern Heights, 40-30; Bluestem, 25-10; and Hamilton, 30-0. Marion lost to Wichita East, 70-40; Yates Center, 50-40; and Fredonia, 40-10.

Robson led scoring with 110, followed by Funk, 45, Goentzel, 40, sophomore Jared Hague, 20, and Waner, 20.
