MHS senior wins best in show at the art festival

Marion High School senior Logan Maytum won best in show at the Heart of America League Art Festival April 3 at Ell Saline.

Maytum’s acrylic painting, a close up of a husky’s eyes, was named the best painting among about 400 pieces.

Brea Freeman also won a first place award in the drawing category, which was the category with the most entries.

As a school, Marion took between 35 and 40 pieces of art to the festival. Seniors participating were Angel Funk, Brianna Hall, Andrea Nordiques, Josh Catlin, Sarah Euro, and Whitney Christianson. Art teacher Janessa Wood said most of them received some type of award at the show.

“I am sad that I only had one year with them,” Wood said of the seniors. “I will miss these kids a lot. What amazed me about this group is how much they still wanted to learn, and how much they wanted my help and advice on their projects.”

Other students who took pieces of art to the festival were Alicia Maloney, Noelle Gulick, Alli Boyd, Bailey Robson, Jared Hague, and Miran Stephenson.

“The talent will definitely be there,” Wood said of upcoming years.
