MHS wins forensics meet

Marion High School forensics team earned first place Feb. 16 at the Hillsboro High School meet.

Alex Eurit won first place in the solo humorous acting division for his performance of “Dirk the Angry Scotsman” by John C. Havens. With the win, Eurit qualified for state championships, Coach Janet Killough said. Sarah Guetersloh placed fourth in the division.

Brooke Johnson and Lucy Collett placed second in improvised duet acting, good enough to qualify for state. Johnson also qualified with her third-place finish in prose.

Caroline Collett placed fifth in prose, and Guetersloh and Landon Leiker placed fifth in improvised duet acting.

Three entries placed in the informative speaking division. Leiker placed second, Eurit fourth, and Kristen Geis fifth. Annie Whitaker placed fifth in solo serious acting.

Northern Heights meet

The Warriors placed second Feb. 7 at Northern Heights.

Whitaker took first in poetry, while Caroline Collett placed second in poetry and first in prose.

Leiker placed first in informative speaking and Geis placed second. Guetersloh won the solo humorous acting division, and Eurit placed fourth in the event.

Leiker and Guetersloh took third place in improvised duet acting. E.J. Obermeyer placed fifth in extemporaneous speaking. Whitaker and Beth Nesser placed fourth in duet acting.

Whitaker, Caroline Collett, Leiker, Geis, and Guetersloh qualified for state championships.

Council Grove meet

MHS traveled Saturday to Council Grove. Tristen Snelling placed second in prose, qualifying for state.

Also at Council Grove, Eurit placed fourth in solo humorous acting, and Snelling and Johnson placed sixth in duet acting.
