Tampa and Lincolnville elevators once again have piles of milo on the ground.

According to Agri Producers manager Stan Utting, milo harvest is almost complete, and the two sites have dumped more milo on the ground this year than last. Some of it had excess moisture and will be transferred to the elevators for drying when space becomes available.

“We’ve taken in so many more beans this year, that there wasn’t room for milo in the elevators,” Utting said.

Dale Klenda, elevator supervisor at Lincolnville, said the facility soon would have an open bin to receive wet milo. Both elevators will run wet grain through dryers.

Cooperative Grain and Supply elevators have enough storage space to store milo inside and dry it, if necessary. Mike Thomas, manager at Marion, said the elevator has received some wet milo from Lincolnville and Florence.

Phil Timpken, manager of the Mid-Kansas Cooperative elevator in Peabody, said milo is stored inside. He said milo harvest is complete. The total acreage was down this year, but the yield was up.
