MMS boys sweep Ellinwood

It was a perfect night Thursday when Marion Middle School boys’ basketball team played host to Ellinwood.

The A- and B-teams moved their record to 3-0 with victories, and the C-team won the first game it had played this season.

Jordan Hett led the Wildcats in the A-game with 10 points, and MMS won despite trailing 14-9 at the half.

A 7-1 third quarter, and 13-4 fourth quarter for Marion did in the Eagles.

Jacob Harper contributed nine points, and Ethan Hett had eight.

“Easier shots and free throws were the difference in the end,” said MMS head coach Kelly Robson. “Actually, we just played harder in the second half and were determined not to lose.”

The B-team dominated from the start, and lead 9-2 after one quarter and 23-4 at the half.

Trever Kinnersley was in double-figures with 15, while Grif Case had nine points and Zach Robson six.

“(They) seem to be picking up the skills necessary to compete well,” Robson said.

The C-team Wildcats found themselves in a tight ballgame after leading 8-2 after the first quarter.

The Eagles outscored Marion 6-0 in the second quarter, and tied the game at eight.

A 14-4 fourth quarter helped the Wildcats cruise to a 27-19 victory.

Eric Regnier and Spencer Fugitt each had six points.

“(We) did a nice job of rebounding at both ends,” Robson said. “(We) handled the ball well in our offensive set, so the number of turnovers was kept low.”

The Wildcats played Monday at home against Hillsboro, but results were not available before press time.
