MMS girls 3-1 on week

Marion Middle School Lady Wildcats played host Thursday to Haven for their first games of the season.

In the C-team game, Elizabeth Goentzel and Abbey Smith each had four points, while Sarah Eurit and Amanda Stucklik each had two.

Marion claimed victory at the buzzer thanks to a last second steal and layup, making the final score, 12-11.

The B-team followed the winning ways and defeated Haven 8-4.

Kelli Hess, Abbey Smith, JayDee Schafers, and Balee Shiplet each had two points in the victory.

In the final contest of the night, the A-team Lady Wildcats were downed by Haven, 17-11.

Katey Ehrlich lead Marion scorers with six points, followed by Erin Mierhoff with three and Briana Hall two.

“I was proud of the way the girls played tonight,” MMS coach Casson Schmidt said. “You never know what you’re going to get on your first game.

“The girls obviously are still learning, and we’ll go back to practice and make the needed adjustments to get us ready for next week.”

Centre

The MMS A- and B-teams played Monday at Centre and came away with victories.

The A-team used a balanced attack to defeat the Cougars, 28-15.

Montana Percell led the way with eight points, Erin Meierhoff and Briana Hall had six, while Kelly Hess, JayDee Schafers, Megan Richmond, and Katey Ehrlich each had two.

The B-team used a 16-point effort from Hess to win, 32-14.

Ericka Herzet had six points, Elizabeth Goentzel four, and Monica Spachek, Sarah Eurit, and Schafers each had two.

MMS is at home Thursday to play host to Ellinwood.
