Morris Engel

Former farmer Morris Engel, 79, died Friday at Valley View Professional Care Center in Junction City.

Graveside services with military honors were Monday at St. John’s Cemetery near White City.

Born Jan. 7, 1935 in Herington to Louis and Margaret Engel, he served as a corporal in the Army from 1957 to 1959 before becoming a farmer until 2004.

He married Janice Haas on April 7, 1957 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ramona who preceded in death in 2012.

He is also preceded in death by two sisters, Eunice Eudene Herpich and infant sister Marjory Mae; and infant brother Kenton.

Survivors include two sons, Lyle Engel and Larry Engel, both of Herington; a daughter, Nancy Holt of Wichita; four sisters, Elaine Guimond and Linda Fitzgerald of White City, Joan Hickey of Abilene, and Nora Shippy of Woodbine; three brothers, Louis Jr. of Silver Lake, New York, and Leland and Jim of White City, and nine grandchildren.

Memorials have been established with St. John’s Cemetery Fund of the White City Fire Department.
