Much to do before shop moves

News editor

The Gound family has signed over the former Duckwall store to St. Luke Hospital Foundation, but quite a bit of work is needed before the hospital auxiliary shop can move.

President Janet Herzet said the group was gathering bids for roofing. A pair of early bids were substantially different from each other, she said.

The interior needs to be cleaned and painted, and the auxiliary needs to negotiate to purchase the shelves from Marion Economic Development Inc., she said.

She estimated it may be two months before the shop is ready to move from the location it has been in since it opened in December 2005.

How will volunteers move the merchandise to the future location? Will they fill pickup trucks to move half a block? Will they use shopping carts? Or will they make arrangements similar to a “bucket brigade?” Herzet said it could be any or all of those ideas in some combination.

She thinks the shop will be closed about two weeks during the move.
