Norma Bergman

Norma Jost Plett Bergman, 85, died April 15, 2012, at her home in Shafter, Calif.

She was born April 9, 1927, in Hillsboro to Mary (Friesen) and Jacob R.M. Jost.

She married Bennie Plett on Nov. 4, 1945. They raised three children: a daughter, Dee Robb; and two sons, Michael and Lynn. They lost their first son, Rodney, at birth.

They were married 32 years when her husband died in 1977. Norma moved to Clovis, Calif., in 1978 to be near her daughter. She then married Leland Bergman on Dec. 14, 1981, and the couple made Shafter, Calif., their home. She was a member of the Shafter Mennonite Brethren Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers; her first husband, Bennie Plett; and one son, Rodney.

She is survived by her husband of 30 years, Lee Bergman; one daughter, Dee Robb; two sons, Michael Plett and Lynn Plett; 7 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one step-daughter, Kathy Handel; one stepson, Joel Bergman; 8 step-grandchildren and 14 step-great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was April 18 at Shafter Mennonite Brethren Church with Pastor Pat Coyle officiating. Interment will be in Springfield Cemetery, Lehigh.
