Olive Rowland

Olive Leola (Guggisberg) Rowland, 90, formerly of Burns, died Friday.

Born Dec. 22, 1918, to Alfred and Leola Maud (Stebbins) Guggisberg on their farm southwest of Burns, she attended Prairie View School and graduated in 1937 from Burns High School.

She married Wes Rowland, who had rented a neighboring farm with his brother, Feb. 19, 1940, in Lyons. The couple later moved to the Admire area and, in 1951, to northwest of Emporia.

She joined Cottonwood Friends Church, was a founding member of Grace Bible Church, and at the time of her death was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, Cottonwood Friends Church Missionary Society, and Prairie Hill Unit.

Her husband; a brother, Harry; and a sister, Clara Allsopp, preceded her in death.

Survivors include a brother, Carl of Lawrence; a sister, Lela Virgil of Torrance, Calif.; a son, Jerald of Emporia; two daughters, Juanita Rees of Emporia and Sandra Robinson of Lawrence; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services were planned for 10 a.m. today at Bethel Baptist Church, Emporia.
