Orthopedic specialists are setting up shop in Marion

In the past, when local patients wanted treatment for orthodpedic injuries, they had to drive out of town.

No more.

Two orthopedic specialists are coming to St. Luke Hospital on a regular basis.

Drs. Richard Rattay and Michael Yost of Emporia are orthopedic and sports medicine specialists and surgeons.

“We often see patients from Marion,” Rattay said. “We saw there was a need for us in Marion and were told St. Luke Hospital was interested in orthopedic coverage.”

Rattan specializes in muscularskeletal problems, fractures, strains, and sprains. He also can treat arthritis, perform orthoscopic procedures, and provide joint replacement.

Yost is a sports medicine physician with the majority of his patients being high school and college athletes. Among his specialies are reconstruction of the ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) — one of four major ligaments in the knee — minscial repairs and transplants.

“I try to help manage their injuries and get them back on their feet,” Yost said.

The doctors will provide examinations, prescribe treatment, and determine if physical therapy or surgery is necessary.

“Our goal is to get patients back on their feet and back in the game,” Yost said.

St. Luke Hospital facilities will be utilized for testing and treatment.

“Even with those Marion patients who come to Emporia, we encourage their physical therapy at St. Luke Hospital,” Rattay said.

Appointments are available from 8 a.m. to noon on the second Wednesday of the month.

If there is a need, the physicians said they are willing to come more often.
