Otto Bentz

Otto Anton Bentz, 90, of Tampa died June 16 at Hillsboro Community Medical Center.

Born Jan. 4, 1919, to Phillip R. and Elsie (Bruns) Bentz on his family’s farm north of Tampa, he was baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church and confirmed into the church May 20, 1934.

He attended public school then St. John’s school in Tampa, and attended Tampa High School until he had to help farm after his father became ill.

He married Frieda J. Backhus March 14, 1943, at St. John’s. They continued to farm and operate their dairy. He later worked for American Milk Producers Inc., Hillsboro, for 17 years, retiring in 1989.

All nine of his siblings preceded him in death: Clarence, Phillip, Ervin, Paul, Arnold, and Mildred Bentz, Ella Riffel, and Esther Loy.

Survivors include his wife, Frieda; son, Alan; a granddaughter; and a great-grandson, all of Tampa.

Services were Friday at the church. The Rev. Clark M. Davis officiated. Interment was in the church cemetery.
