Commissioners rule doesn’t meet investment requirement

An outbuilding constructed by Randy and Debra Fee and Terry L. and Pamela Chizek will not continue in Marion County’s Neighborhood Revitalization Program.
Commissioners voted Thursday to remove the building, saying it didn’t appear to meet the requirement of a $15,000 investment. The outbuilding is located at the intersection of 110th and Pawnee roads.
The building entered the program in November 2006, and was due to be finished before Jan. 1, 2008. The owners requested an extension to November 2008, but it still was unfinished in January 2009, Appraiser Cindy Magill said.
It also appears to be constructed with used timber and tin, commissioners said.
“I don’t think that’s an example of neighborhood revitalization,” Magill said.
In other business:
- Cooperative Grain and Supply of Hillsboro won a bid for 6,550 gallons of fuel between four tanks. The winning bid was $9,538. Cardie Oil of Tampa bid $9,733.
- Jeffery Benbrook was hired by Marion County Park and Lake Department as a part-time employee. He will earn $8 per hour.
- Marion County Clerk Carol Maggard corrected bids for a printer. An earlier bid approved by commission did not include a maintenance agreement or necessary hardware. With those, Infinitech of Hays won the bid with $2,361. Online merchant CDW-G bid $2,420.
- Marion County will seek bids for a mowing contract for the courthouse square. Maggard had received bids for a new riding lawn mower, and commissioners asked to see if the county could save by continuing to contract the work.
- Commissioners met with Communications and Emergency Management Director Michele Abbott in closed session to discuss personnel for 10 minutes. No action was taken on return to open session.
- Gary Evans requested to have Old Mill Road north of 240th Road be rocked from his driveway to oil company tanks. Trucks returning from the tanks drag mud past his house, Road and Bridge Superintendent John Summerville said. Commissioners took no action.
