Park receives $20K gift

Staff writer

The park and scholarship campaign has received notice from a Marion family that they will agree to provide $20,000 if the campaign can raise $20,000 to match it.

The park and scholarship campaign includes the Marion Advancement Campaign, Marion Kiwanis club, Marion PRIDE committee, and the Marion Park Board.

Marion Park Board representative Todd Heitschmidt said the plan for the matching donation is to raise another $20,000 and the total of $60,000 will provide at least 80 percent of the funding to replace the gazebo, bathrooms, and install security equipment for the park, although he said not all of the expenses for a potential project have been calculated.

The total goal for the year-long campaign is to raise $150,000, with $100,000 going to the park.

“We hope to have enough collected by the spring,” Heitschmidt said.
