Patrick Kelly

Patrick Joseph “Pat” Kelly, 52, of Edina, Mo., passed away July 15, 2010, at Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, Mo.

Pat was born March 17, 1958, in Newton, the son of Robert Eugene and Donna Rae (Ehrlich) Kelly.

He was raised in Marion, where he was quarterback of the Marion High School football team, graduating with the class of 1976. After graduation, he served his country in the United States Navy. He was chosen as Review Commander at the Great Lakes Training Center and was accepted to the elite Nuclear Welding School in San Diego, Calif.

While serving on the USS Samuel Gompers, Pat met the love of his life, Lynne Marie Bednarz, also serving aboard. They were married July 1, 1989.

Pat worked with his father for a number of years in Kelly Construction in Marion before his employment with Greeley Gas. He was transferred to Edina in 1998 when the name changed to Atmos Energy.

Pat was a member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Marion, St. Joseph Catholic Church in Edina, and Knights of Columbus Council No. 846. He was a fourth-degree Knight with the JFK Assembly No. 1446. Pat was also a member of the Edina Fire Department and had served as president of the NEMO Bow and Gun Club.

Pat loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing as a youngster. He mowed yards and worked outdoors.

Pat is survived by his wife, Lynne Kelly of Edina; two sons, Evan Kelly and his friend Ashley of Shelbyville, Mo., and Ryan Kelly of Edina; his parents, Bob and Donna Kelly of Marion; mother-in-law, Natalie P. Tenny of Longmont, Colo.; father-in-law, Bernard J. Bednarz of Dudley, Mass.; brother-in-law, Douglas Druse; nephews, Christopher and Joshua; niece, Danielle; great-niece, Saxon, all of Melbourne, Fla.; aunt and uncle; numerous cousins; and a host of friends.

Pat was preceded in death by a sister, Sherri Marie Druse, Dec. 14, 2009.

A Mass of Christian burial was at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Edina.

Military graveside honors were at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Marion Cemetery in Marion. Father Hien Nguyen officiated.

Memorials may be made to Edina Fire Department or St. Joseph Catholic Church in care of Zeiner Funeral Home, 205 Elm St., Marion.
