Patrons celebrate Fourth of July
Senior Center
Senior center patrons celebrated Independence Day on July 3 by reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, singing the national anthem, and playing a trivia game.
Connie Fisher led the singing of “God Bless America,”accompanied on piano by Keith Allison.
Shirley Bowers also played patriotic music on piano. Patrons ate Girl Scout cookies and ice cream.
Later in the week, Bowers displayed her patriotic teddy bears, and Roger Bitner shared daylilies from his garden.
Myrta Billings highlighted the importance of herbs and spices in a talk about senior nutrition.
The center will have another program July 19.
Senior Citizens
to meet at Burns
The board of directors of Senior Citizens of Marion County will meet at 9:30 a.m. July 21 at Burns Community Center.
Burns seniors will serve lunch. Reservations are being accepted through July 19 by Joyce Kyle at (620) 726-5852 and Department on Aging at (620) 382-3580.
Transportation will be provided if requested by July 20.
Senior nurses eligible for honors
Nurses, past and present, who are 60 and older will be recognized by Senior Citizens of Marion County at its October meeting.
Nominations are being accepted for nurses who live in Marion County, worked in medical or school settings, and can attend an Oct. 18 meeting at Marion Senior Center.
Forms are available at senior centers and through the county Department on Aging. Nominations must be received by Aug. 11.
