PBHS runners will compete individually

Staff writer

The PBHS cross-country team is smaller than in recent years but it should compete well at the individual level. Neither squad will have enough for team scoring, but they should have a good season with some strong returning individual runners.

Three seniors will be the core group on the squad.

Sheldon Wiebe had a 28th-place finish at state and shows a lot of senior focus. He understands cross-country, having competed on a state qualifying team for the past two seasons.

Lauren Pickens placed sixth at state this past season. She earned all-state honors for her top-10 finish. She looks to improve her times this year.

Heather Brooks is the vocal leader of the squad. She has much determination and wants to improve with every competition.

Matt Hiebert is a junior in the PBHS program. Hiebert is with the squad for a second year. He looks to improve in the coming season.

Amanda Pickens, a junior, has made significant improvement in her time since she joined cross-country as a freshman. As the season progresses, she will improve her pace and her times should reflect that.

Two sophomores will also compete this year as varsity runners. Zach Preheim and Seth Topham competed as junior-varsity runners but they will probably see more varsity time this season. Without a team score to be concerned about, they will be able to compete at either level.

Kim Topham coaches the Warrior squad again.
